Video Updates

Here are several videos of Landon being his cute, smart little self.

You can see him counting, riding his trike, learning how to ride a bike with his Uncle Monkey Michael, learning to write letters and serving up coffee.  You can also hear about how he likes to move it, move it!

He is so much fun and an absolute joy to watch.  We really scored when we were given this guy to raise and love.

Wheat Belly

*singing*  I've got Wheat Belly! Yes I do! I've got Wheat Belly! How 'bout YOU?!  *singing*

I started reading this book recently.

I've eliminated wheat, sugar, dairy and carbs lots of times in my life. I always feel better when I go to a diet of veggies, fruit, nuts, seeds, some meat and minimal dairy. I have more energy, clarity in my thinking, less body aches and headaches. I feel better all around.

Reading this book has been very eye opening. It's given me new motivation to get the wheat out for good. I'm on day 2 of no wheat and I'll be honest, I feel like crap. It's like my body is going through detox or something. I'm going to stick it out though because I know I will feel better in the long run.

So, here we go!

Easy 10 Minute Slaw

I threw this together tonight on a whim. I will say, it's better if left to marinate over night but I totally had a serving with dinner.

1 head red cabbage

4-6 scallions

1/4 Cup slivered almonds

2 TBSP Sesame Oil

4 TBSP Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1/2 Cup Vinegar (white or apple cider, I only had white so that's what I used this time). Also, I like it vinegar-ey. You can use more or less to your taste.

1/4 cup Peanuts (optional)

Garlic salt, pepper and salt to taste.

Finely chop the cabbage and scallions. Throw everything in a bowl and mix. Done! It is best to let it sit on the counter over night to really let the favors get all up in each others business.

Grandma's Flower Garden

When I was young, I remember my Mama spending countless hours every year tending to our abundant vegetable garden and the gorgeous flowers that surrounded our home.  Every Spring, she would arrive home with a trunk load or more of beautiful flowers of all varieties.  I remember playing in the front yard while she was bent over, fingers buried to her forearms in dirt, happily digging and planting.  She would usually finish the flower bed that ran along our drive way in one afternoon, because she worked at it until it was just so.  She would occasionally take a break to wipe the sweat off her brow or grab a quick drink of water.  One thing I remember about those beautiful, sunny Spring days is how absolutely content and happy my Mama was.

When my husband and I bought our first home, Mama and I went out to our local nursery and she helped me choose my own flowers.  She and I planted those day lilies together, both of us covered in dirt up to our elbows.  I will admit, I don't have the green thumb my mother has.  There are only a few that still come up each Spring, but every year when I see the little green heads peaking through our mulch, I think of my sweet Mama.

Last night, Landon and I went to Mama's house for a quick visit.  Before we left she asked Landon, "Shall we go out and cut some flowers for you and Mommy to take home?"  He was delighted and was right on her heels as she walked around searching, snipping and putting together a lovely bouquet.  He held those flowers all the way home.

He loved it and so did I.

This morning when he woke up the first thing he asked for were his flowers.   I gave him one and he carried it around until we left.

Thanks, Mama.  Not only for the flowers but for the memories we've made and those to come.

Chair Sleeper

My child.

He has been getting out of bed lately and going in to the living room after we go downstairs to unwind.

This is how I found him tonight when I came up to go to bed. If you can't tell, he is sound asleep in the recliner.

Cute little stinker!

This is his "I'm tyring to sleep so stop with the flash already, MOM!' face.
Sleeping peacefully in Mama's chair.  Love.

Labor Day Project

I have been talking about making a bulletin/magnet board for Landon for, honestly, about a year now.  Today, I finally got around to doing it!  This was an inexpensive, easy thing to do and Landon totally LOVES it!

Bulletin Board - Gently used and passed along to us for FREE!

Spray Paint - $3.00

Cookie Sheets - $1.00 each from the Dollar Store

Foam stickers and letters, Pom-Pom and Googly Eye Magnets I made with supplies from the Dollar Store - $6.00 for everything and I have tons of supplies left over.

$11.00 TOTAL! Awesome!

I spray painted the cookie sheets and glued them to the board with Gorilla Glue (which we already had at home). The magnets had an adhesive backing so I simply stuck those to the chosen objects. Simple! I'm pleased with how it turned out and so is the boy.

Success!

You can go HERE to see how much Landon is enjoying this creation.  :-)

Wedding, Wedding and I FALL down!

We were fortunate to attend the wedding of my sweet cousin and his gorgeous bride this weekend!  It was an outdoor affair held at a local tree farm, which was lush and breathtaking.  There were large, full, mature trees.  It also had a lot of rocks and such running along the path to where the wedding was held.

I was sporting these AH-MAZING (approximately four inch) heels that I had no business wearing!  Okay, I was actually totally fine in them, until I hit that stone walk way.  OH, and that one time I almost fell down the stairs.  Other than that, I was totally fine.

Let me paint you a picture, figuratively speaking, of course.  I'm no artist!

It's approximately 8000 degrees outside, although we were mostly shaded by those large trees. There was a dude playing a guitar as every one gathered and found their seats.  Here I am, casually walking on my way to find a seat.  Next thing I know, one of those damn rocks reached right up, grabbed my fabulous wedge heel and yanked me down!  The nerve!  I was kind of shocked and I think Scott secretly wanted to laugh.  Then I realized the guitar dude wasn't playing anymore!  The music stopped and I was all like, "I better get my A$$ up because everyone is fixin' to see me all laid out on the ground!"  So, I scooped up my pride, brushed myself off and pretended like nothing happened.  It wasn't until I got to my seat that I noticed my scraped up knee.  Seriously?  What am I, a five year old tomboy?
